An entertainment district located in Bangkok, Thailand, Patpong offers many services catering to tourists and other foreigners. This district is a great deal of fun, especially at night.
Bars and Restaurants in Patpong
Patpong was a much sleazier district in the past, but has become much more gentrified now, with many nice restaurants and bars that aren’t as risque. However, it’s still important to stay safe and travel in groups, as there are definitely unsavory individuals that hang around to prey on innocent tourists. The Twilo hip hop bar and Muzzik Cafe are safe and entertaining bars, with live music and a mixture of tourists and locals.
Patpong Night Markets
While the bazaars and stalls lining the streets of Patpong aren’t the main attraction, there are still some interesting things to see at the night markets. The many stalls sell goods of dubious authenticity, such as bootleg DVDs, tourist trinkets, T-shirts, and fake watches. Feel free to barter with the shop owners, but be careful not to upset anyone with connections to the Thai mafia.
The Sleazy Side of Patpong
The main draw of Patpong by far is its red light district. Here, you can find a procession of tightly packed go-go bars, touts flashing explicit menus, and Patpong’s infamous ping-pong shows. Be very careful if you plan on exploring this seedier side of the district; many clubs will scam you out of a great deal of money with exorbitant door charges and hidden fees. Be sure to always travel in a group, and don’t trust anyone promising a free show or cheap drinks.
