Take a Stroll along the River Wye

The 15th longest river in the United Kingdom, the River Wye is approximately 15 miles long. A portion of it flows through the town of Bakewell. Here you can walk alongside the river’s edge or visit the recreational grounds to have a picnic. There is an abundant amount of wildlife here, including trout, grayling fish, coots, swans, geese, ducks, moorhens, and water voles.

The Market Hall’s Tourist Center

On Bridge Street, the Old Market Hall is the first place you should stop. You can get all of your tourist information here. When you gather your pamphlets and maps, be sure to take a second look at the building itself. It was built in the 1600’s, has handmade wooden support beams, and a stone-carved coat of arms outside.

The town of Bakewell is known for its Bakewell pudding, which is shipped all over the world from The Original Bakewell Pudding Shop. You can have more than just pudding at the shop. Everything is baked fresh daily, including breads, cakes, and tarts. You can also get a taste of gourmet coffee and teas.

Saturday Morning Farmer’s Market

The farmer’s market is held on the last Saturday of each month in Bakewell. Every item that is served has been produced or raised locally. You can buy or taste a sample of a variety of foods, including fruits, vegetables, fish, meat, cheese, cakes, breads, jams, and other delicious products.
