The shopping in Bakewell, located in the Derbyshire region of England, is extensive. You can find anything from clothes to souvenirs to household items to food in the many shops and bakeries, and all for a fairly good price.
Visit the Bakeries and Cafes
There is way more than one little hole-in-the-wall that has delicious food in Bakewell. You can find famous Bakewell puddings in nearly every food shop, and while everyone claims to make the best one, it is up to you to decide which really is. You can also find exotic meats and cheeses in the Original Farmers’ Market Shop.
Visit Open-Air Markets
There are several market days in Bakewell. On Mondays, you can attend the Bakewell Market, where stalls are covered with canvas awnings. For such a small town, this market is reasonably large, and you can find both goods and food here. There is another smaller market on Fridays near the Spar shop. Bakewell is known for antiques, which you may be able to find in these markets for a good price.
Visit Indoor Markets
There are also several indoor markets in Bakewell. The East Midlands Designer Outlet is full of discontinued items marked down 50% in its 100 different shops, including Cadbury’s and Marks and Spencers. You should also visit the four-story Masson Mill. This former mill has a stark brick exterior, but don’t be fooled by its lack of curb appeal. Inside are four levels of shops where you can purchase anything from candles to household items to clothes. Parking is a bit expensive for the Mill, at 50p for only two hours. It also contains a textile museum, which is open daily and costs GBP2.50.
