Auckland Things To Do
Auckland is a city on New Zealand’s North Island. While in Auckland, hike up Mt. Eden, explore the zoo and aquarium, and hop on a Ferry to nearby Devonport.
Mt. Eden
Mt. Eden is the highest point in Auckland and the site of an extinguished volcano. Busses can’t reach the peak, so it can be a bit of a hike, but it’s well worth the effort. At the top, you’re rewarded with unrivaled views of the ocean, the city, and the surrounding landscape. Don’t forget your camera!
Zoo and Underwater World
If you’re traveling with little ones, you might want to skip Mt. Eden and head for the Auckland Zoo. Here, you can see elephants, hippos, tigers, lemurs, and many more animals. After you’re finished at the zoo, head to Kelly Tarlton’s Sea Life Aquarium. There, you can visit stingrays, penguins, sharks, and many more aquatic wildlife.
Devonport
Devonport, a harbor and suburb of Auckland, is a short ferry ride from downtown. Devonport is home to a Naval Base, as well as the Food and Wine Festival. In town, you can shop, admire the wooden houses that line the beach, and grab a cup of coffee at one of the many street front cafes. Well worth the trip, Devonport is a favorite hangout amongst travelers and residents of Auckland.
