If you’re planning a trip to Arizona, you need to pack the right things to beat the heat. Get inspired by our list of things you’ll need for the desert climate.
Summer temperatures in Arizona typically exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit, so you’ll want to pack clothing that can keep you cool, such as tank tops, shorts, and light dresses. Anyone who is prone to sunburns should consider light clothing that covers the shoulders, back, and chest. Desert nights can be cool, even in the summer, so pack a light jacket or sweatshirt. Sandals with thick soles are probably a better choice than flip flops. The pavement in the summer gets so hot that locals have had egg frying contests on the ground.
Winters in Arizona won’t be as hot, but you’d be surprised how cold a winter night can be. Daytime temperatures tend to hover around the low-70's, but night temperatures reach freezing levels. Pack a warm jacket if you plan to be out at night. Gloves and hats may even be necessary if you’ll be camping or otherwise spending a lot of time outside at night. Otherwise, you’ll be fairly comfortable if you bring clothing that you can layer to adjust your body temperature as necessary

A bad sunburn can ruin your trip. Pack plenty of sunscreen to protect your skin. Don’t forget to reapply it often. You’ll also want a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses to protect your eyes. Clothing that has UV protection is a good idea if you’ll be touring some of the state’s beautiful landscapes. It's an extra layer of protection for your skin. Any other toiletries you may need can be brought from home or purchased there.
