Reviews of Appropriate Clothing in Jerusalem

What to Pack for Jerusalem

Jerusalem is a Middle Eastern city that lies close to the Judaean desert. When visiting this city with a hot climate and a conservative mix of cultures, it’s a good idea to know what to pack for a trip to Jerusalem.

Appropriate Clothing for the Sun

Light colored clothing will deflect the suns rays and keep you cooler while exploring this ancient city. Also be sure to pack a sun hat, sunglasses and sun block. Pack some lip balm in your pocket. It’s light enough to carry around and will keep your lips from drying out. Pack moisturizing lotion as the dry climate will dry out your skin.

Culture in Jerusalem

Shorts are ok to wear for men, but you won’t be able to get into some religious sites wearing them. Women will need to cover their hair to enter some of these sites so bring your own hajib or risk wearing a loaned one. Also, women should wear long pants or long skirts and dresses as well as clothing that covers the arms to avoid unwanted attention. The same dress code, minus the hajib, goes for many of nicer restaurants in the city.

Pack for Walking

Jerusalem is best explored on foot and it is easy to get lost in the maze of streets, so pack a couple pairs of really comfortable walking shoes. Rubber shoes fair better than leather shoes on the uneven pavement. To keep yourself cool and hydrated, pack a day backpack to hold water and a wash cloth.
