The Natural Beauty of Annecy
Lake Annecy comes highly recommended as it’s the second largest lake in France and it’s one of the cleanest. You can take a non-stop inexpensive cruise around the waters or you can also take a boat that makes a variety of stop along the way. See the smaller neighboring towns and enjoy the tranquility of this scenic place. You can almost use these little cruises like a regular ferry or public transportation to get around. The mountains, the sun and the people will definitely give you a full, fun day. The Gorges du Fier is another natural treasure of this city, and a great place to take a walk and see the wildlife of the area. The old town area has amazing gardens that you can stroll around in for hours.
Historic Places to Visit
Eglise de Notre Dame de Liesse and Palais de L’isle are historic buildings to teach you more about the rulers and the religious pillars of the community. See the gothic influences of in the church and learn more about the story behind its architecture. You can also visit Chateau d’Annecy, which is a castle that made between the 12th and the 16th century. The counts of Geneva lived here for years until the castle fell into disrepair. In the 1950’s though, it received a restoration to become a major tourist destination.
