Anguilla…Paradise

Author: Judith C
Date of Trip: April 2009

Having recently returned from my 20th visit to Anguilla, one may ask what is so attractive about a place that you would return so many times and not tire of it? My answer is easy. How can one tire of Paradise? Are sapphire waters and cloudless lavender skies juxtaposed against white sand beaches so hard to take day after day and year after year? I think not. The word is serenity, which, by the way, happens to be the name of the place we have stayed at since its second year of operation. All this beauty is yours from the moment you open your eyes until the sunsets around the corner from you. All this happens on Shoal Bay East, in my opinion, the most beautiful beach in the Caribbean. Having been to many other islands in the Caribbean ( Puerto Rico, Cayman Islands, Turks and Caicos,Antigua, St.Martin, St. Barts, Jamaica), you know that I have seen beautiful beaches, but none can compare to what is at your feet (literally) when staying at Serenity in Shoal Bay East.

Serenity is aptly named since it is at the end of Shoal Bay East and none but the avid beach walkers make it that far down. At times it feels as if it is your beach alone as you look down the long expanse of beach and there is no one there. The rooms are comfortably appointed in studio ( with a microwave, mini fridge and coffee maker) or one or two bedrooms with a complete kitchen and living area. All accommodations have spectacular views of the beach and surrounding area. There is something about Anguilla that makes you feel comfortable and “at home”. It truly is the people as well as the beaches that keep you returning..they are always so warm and welcoming..ready to help you have the best time possible and feeling more like family.

So what is there to do in Paradise? As little or as much as you want to do…so a typical day may be waking to a gorgeous sunrise, walking the beach, reading, relaxing, swimming, lunch, relaxing, walking the beach and the most taxing task of the day, deciding which of the many wonderful restaurants to eat in. The day ends with a cocktail on the beach as you watch the sunset before you and go off for a five star gourmet dinner or hit a local restaurant to complete a day in Paradise and then…start all over again the next day. Oh well, someone has to do it!
