American and Marriott, Loyalty Partners Again

    When American and Marriott announced, in May 2010, that they would be

    severing their loyalty-program ties

    later that summer, I called it a lose-lose-lose. Two good programs lost valuable partners. And the best interests of both companies' customers were kicked to the curb.

    Three years later, whatever issues drove a wedge between American and Marriott have apparently been resolved.

    AAdvantage members can once again earn miles for Marriott stays

    , and Marriott Rewards members can convert their points into AAdvantage miles.

    Effective immediately, AAdvantage members can resume earning one to two miles per dollar spent on the room rate, depending on the brand, and two miles per dollar spent on all qualifying transactions.
