The Amalfi region, although incredibly picturesque, can be harrowing to drive for those unfamiliar with the area. Utilizing the bus system or taxis is the way to go. The entire region is well served by public transport, and a private rental car is not usually necessary.
The bus system is quite good, and given the winding roads of the Amalfi Coast many visitors choose not to drive. Utilize the Blue Bus and leave the driving to the professionals. The SITA website is well organized and puts all of the relevant timetables at your fingertips.
Traveling in the evening, or to a destination inconvenient to the many bus stops, may be easier done with a taxi. There are many private companies available, and visitors can choose from roving taxis or dedicated transportation firms that provide greater comfort as well as knowledgeable drivers. The reliable Amalfi Transfer is a popular choice of many tourists.
The Amalfi Coast lends itself well to travel between its many picturesque seaside towns. While there are buses between towns, the train system is another great option. The stations are centrally located and the routes provide a great sightseeing opportunity. The Circumvesuviana Line will take you where you want to go in comfort, and with very little expense.
The Amalfi Coast is served by the airport in Napoli, the largest city in the region. There are a few options to take over to the coast, but the best is the Circumvesuviana Line that travels to Sorrento.
