You can find some really great (and some really odd) items for sale in Albufeira. Here are a few recommendations for shopping locations in Albufeira and what you should consider purchasing.

Rua 5 de Outubro

When it comes to overall quality of shopping locations, it is hard to pass this street. Rua 5 de Outubro is located in the old city grounds, and while it is just one story high, it is a wide street that twists a bit. Many of the storefronts offer some shade and coverings for outdoor shopping (or so you can stop by a cafe). Even if you don’t buy anything, it is a great time simply walking through the street.

Pau de Pita

This is a smaller shop, but it sells a collection of some of the best pottery in the city. It also makes its own food and bread. There’s something about being able to buy handmade dishes from a store that also makes its own food. Of course, it helps that both are excellent and of the highest quality.

Mercado Municipal

This is a daily market, so show up early for the best selection. If you’ve never been to a Mediterranean-style market before you’re in for a treat. You can find everything from fresh produce to seafood. It is pretty interesting to take in the smell and the sounds of the market. If you want to purchase items here though, make sure to bring cash as very few locations take credit cards.

Avenida da Liberdade

This is one of the more modern shopping areas in the city. It starts off near the gate to the old city, and there are also other shopping areas nearby. This way, if you don’t like the modern offerings here, you can go to some of the older sections in the old city gate and look for something else. You literally can spend all day shopping in this part of town. With different cafes in the area as well you can also just stay put for as long as you’d like.
