Airlines Waive Change Fees After Boston Marathon Attack

In the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings, many airlines are waiving change fees for flyers booked to travel through the city in the following days.

Boston’s Logan Airport is operating normally, although travelers should expect to see heightened security, and may want to leave additional time for longer wait times at checkpoints.

Some airlines are waiving both change fees and any fare difference penalties, while others are only waiving the change fees. All are only valid for flights to/from Boston. Here’s a list of what the major airlines are offering, and for what travel windows:

  • AirTran: April 15-17 (rebook for travel three days from original departure date; No charge.)
  • Air Canada: April 15-16 (re-booking window is flexible; No charge.)
  • Alaska Airlines: April 15-16 (rebook for travel through April 20; No charge.)
  • American Airlines: April 15-17 (rebook for travel through April 20; No charge.)
  • Delta Air Lines: April 15-17 (rebook for travel through April 20 with no penalties; After April 20, change fee is still waived, but a fare difference may be charged.)
  • JetBlue: April 15-17 (rebook for travel through April 21; No charge.)
  • Southwest Airlines: April 15-17 (travel within 14 days of original travel date; No charge.)
  • United Airlines: April 15-17 (change fees and fare differences waived for same-day flight changes within 24-hours of original scheduled departure; After 24-hours change fee is still waived for travel up to a period of one-year from original ticket issue date, but fare difference may be charged.)
  • US Airways: April 15-17 (travel April 15-21; Change fee is waived, but fare difference may be charged.)
  • Virgin America: April 15-17 (Travel through April 20; No charge.)
