OK, this is one of the most bizarre airline ideas I’ve ever heard. Japan’s All Nippon Airways wants passengers to use the bathroom before boarding, on the premise that ditching all that weight will make the plane more efficient.
But as if that wasn’t weird enough, the airline will post “loo attendants” who will (gently, I’m sure) encourage people to use the restroom at the gate. Now there’s a conversation I’d like to hear: “Excuse me, madam, but I couldn’t help noticing you look like you may need to pee.”
The policy (yes, it’s a policy!) will be tested over four weeks. If the test is a success (and how one determines that is completely beyond me), the program will continue.
