Airfare security fee hike nixed

Travel Weekly (subscription required) reports the U.S. House of Representatives has nixed a proposed security fee increase for air travel that would have cost travelers an extra $2 billion a year.

The fee hike, favored by the Bush administration as a way of increasing the TSA’s annual budget, would have replaced the current fee ($2.50 per flight segment up to a maximum of $5 per flight) with a flat $5 fee per one-way ticket.
