  • The small tourist town of Aguas Clients, now officially called Machu Picchu Pueblo, is located right near the sacred Inca site of Machu Picchu and is the gateway to these Inca ruins. If you're looking for basic AguasCalientes transportation tips, here's what you need to know.

  • Trains and Buses to Aguas Calientes



  • Most travelers to Machu Picchu depart from Cusco, which is about 112 kilometers away from AguasCalientes. You can also depart from Ollantaytambo, which is a bit closer. Many trains and buses depart from both Cusco and Ollantaytambo that will take you to AguasCalientes. There are plenty of places to buy train tickets in Peru, via either Peru Rail or Inca Rail. Tickets range in prices, depending on the tourist seasons and car class, but generally speaking both Inca Rail and Peru Rail have similar prices.

    If you are planning to take the train from the San Pedro station in Cusco to AguasCalientes, you have three options to choose. All three trains stop in Ollantaytambo.

  • Once you arrive in AguasCalientes, you will need separate entry tickets and transpiration to reach Machu Picchu itself. Buses to Machu Picchu from AguasCalientes depart before sunrise. Some people also hike from the town to Machu Picchu, which takes several hours.
