  • Accra Transportation

  • When you arrive in Accra, you'll need to know the best way to get around. Here are the best methods of transportation in Accra.

  • Tro-Tro

  • This is the most inexpensive way to travel in Accra. It's a minivan that operates like a cross between a taxi and a bus. It operates on a fixed route, and you can get off whenever you like. Tro-Tro drivers tend to be the most aggressive drivers on the road, so they are also the most likely to get into accidents. Since you share a ride in close quarters, pick pocketing can also be an issue.

  • Bus

  • Bus fare is cheap in Accra, but the buses aren't in the best shape. They are generally overcrowded, and you have to wait till the bus stops at a bus station to get off. Different bus stations are used for buses to different destinations, so it can get confusing figuring out where to find the bus you need.

  • Taxi

  • The most enjoyable way to travel in Accra is by taxi. You don't have to worry about locating a bus with the correct route or riding on a crowded Tro-Tro. All official taxis have yellow sides on the car. While they are supposed to charge you based on the meter, in reality, it ends up being a negotiation. You should always negotiate a price before you leave. Be firm, because many taxi drivers will try to overcharge tourists. A short trip should cost about three cedis, and a trip from the airport to downtown should cost between 10-15 cedis.
