Two cruise lines enhance onboard pools and water-based activities

On a hot sunny day at sea, adults and kids both head to the pool deck for a little splashing around. Carnival and Disney understand the need for water play, and that’s why both lines are enhancing their onboard water-based activities.

Carnival plans to install a “Water Wars” attraction on all of its ships by 2007. Guests assemble around two battle stations to engage in water-balloon attacks on fellow players. Specially built catapults will help participants reach their targets. The Imagination and Fascination currently have “Water Wars” areas located adjacent to the main pool area.

Disney is enhancing its pool offerings on the Disney Wonder when the ship enters dry dock in October. A toddler pool in the shape of a sorcerer’s hat will be added to the Deck Nine Mickey Pool. Little ones still in swim diapers can play in the pool’s interactive fountains and splash zones.

Also on Deck Nine, an LED screen will go up next to the family-focused Goofy Pool. This poolside movie theater will show classic Disney films, as well as popular TV shows and sporting events. And for adults only, the Quiet Cove pool by the spa will also get a makeover. The hot tubs will overflow into waterfalls, and new teak lounge chairs will surround the pool.

With so much fun happening poolside, Carnival and Disney cruisers may never get out of the water. If they do manage to disembark at a port, you’ll be able to tell them by their wet hair and wrinkly fingers.
