Royal Caribbean names third Freedom-class ship

By now, you all know of the Freedom of the Seas and you’ll soon hear about her sister, the Liberty of Seas, which debuts in 2007. But you may not know that these two ships have a third sister arriving in May 2008. Royal Caribbean recently announced that this new Freedom-class ship will be named the Independence of the Seas.

The Independence will have all of the amenities found on her sisters, such as rock climbing, surfing, ice skating, and boxing areas; the enormous Presidential Family Suite; and cantilevered whirlpools. The ship can carry 3,634 passengers based on double occupancy.

Royal Caribbean claims that the names of the Freedom-class ships reflect the freedom guests have to choose from a variety of onboard activities. I also sense a hint of patriotism in these names. Would a fourth ship be named Democracy of the Seas, Emancipation of the Seas, or perhaps Justice of the Seas? Whatever their names, these ships will represent the best of [% 2282150 | | cutting-edge onboard amenities %]—innovations on the seas, if you will.
