Charlottetown Things to Do – Attractions & Must See

Charlottetown Things to Do

Charlottetown is both the capital and largest city in the Prince Edward Island province. With its long history and beautiful sights, this city offers many attractions and places to see.

The Coastline

Peake’s Quay forms the waterfront of Charlottetown. It’s beautiful and perfect for an evening walk. As you travel along its stretch, you’ll find there are a few restaurants and souvenir shops in the area. Occasionally, you’ll see some buskers putting on a show for the kids. Further away from the city is Cavendish Beach, which is walking distance from Green Gables. There are red rock cliffs, sand dunes, soft sand, and warm water for taking a swim.

Military History

Located in Charlottetown is the Prince Edward Battery. Established in 1805, this coastal military battery has been guarding the city ever since. Even though it was never actually used for warfare, it has been the site for many ceremonies. Today it is a nice place to wander around, and can be found along Park Roadway near Victoria Park. There is also a military museum in the armories of the Prince Edward Island Regiment. It’s not a huge museum, but it commemorates those who served their country. The museum is closed on weekends, and is most commonly open until four in the afternoon between Monday and Friday.

Food and Drink

Charlottetown offers a number of places to go to satisfy both your hunger and thirst. Cow’s Creamery is famous for its ice cream. Unlike other ice cream factories whose ice cream is infused with up to 80 percent air, Cow’s ice cream is only infused with 20 percent air, making Cow’s ice cream smooth and creamy. For seafood, the Olde Dublin Pub offers up locally sourced oysters alongside a range of other traditional pub food. Another favorite spot for the drinking crowd is the Gahan House, which offers tours of the premises. It’s a popular destination that can attract long lines, so make sure you have the time to grab some stools and relax.
