Dewey Beach…beautiful experience

Dewey Beach, Delaware, The Bay Resort, June 2006

Dewey Beach is one of the best hidden treasures. Dewey is just south of Rehoboth and covers both sides of Route 1, with the Atlantic Ocean on the east and Rehoboth Bay to the west. It is approximately 1 mile long and two blocks wide. Perfect for relaxing, sunning, entertainment and shopping. Often referred to as a college/party town, Dewey may scare some away, but put those fears aside as we did not find this to be a problem.

We had a four night stay at the Bay Resort and were pleased. Everything was as expected and we encountered no problems during our stay. Our room was ample, clean and had a very nice view of the bay. It came with a small efficiency, which is always helpful on vacation. It was a great location as it had a short walking distance to the beach; close to Bottle & Cork, Starboard for those who are interested in nightlife and Ruddertown is also in walking distance. The hotel staff that we encountered were all very pleasant, helpful and informative. In a ideal situation I would love a bigger pool and hot tub, but hey we were happy with what we had and would stay here again. We used the Jolly Trolley stop up the street to travel to and from the boardwalk located in Rehoboth. Along the mile long boardwalk you had your choice of shopping, eating, amusements and more. It was very clean, lit well and accessible. The area off the boardwalk reminded me of a European City in regards to the small shops, cobblestone alleys with white lights, bistro sets and numerous restaurants. Shopping includes the Tangier Outlets on Rte 1; easy access to grocery stores, chain stores and numerous larger restaurants.

By staying in Dewey you are far enough away not to be in congestion, yet close enough that everything is within reach if need be. Ruddertown is located a couple blocks south of the Bay Resort and also includes some shopping, live music and your choice of dining. Accommodations include cottages, beach houses, condos and hotels.
