Things To Do in Dodge City, Kansas

Dodge City Things to Do

With its extensive history as a frontier town, the Kansas city of Dodge City is one of the most famous locations in the United States. Visitors to the region will find many things to do as they explore the area.

Gospel Hill

There are many historic structures built on Gospel Hill. The most impressive church architecture on Gospel Hill may be the First Presbyterian Church. The church has stained glass windows and interior woodwork, in addition to the outstanding stone exterior and red tile roof. Nearby is the Sacred Heart Cathedral, yet another of the oldest buildings in the area. The Spanish Mission architecture includes a stone surround on the front doorway, stained glass windows, and a large altar mural.

Wild West History

The Dodge City Trail of Fame was inaugurated during the 2003 Kansas Cowboy Symposium. Today, the trail boasts an eight-foot-tall statue of Wyatt Earp located across from the Santa Fe Depot on Wyatt Earp Boulevard. The bronze was cast by famous western artist Mary Spurgeon, and provides a starting point for the historical walk of downtown Dodge City.

For lovers of history that want to delve even deeper into the city’s western roots, there’s also Boot Hill Museum. It includes a string of replicated store fronts from the late 19th century. Inside of the buildings is a museum that stretches the length of the stores. Visitors can also find Boot Hill Cemetery and an authentic jail from that period.
