Assisi Transportation – Taxi, Train, Bus & Airport Tips

Assisi Transportation

Transportation to and around the charming town of Assisi is easy and rather inexpensive making it an easy day trip.

Getting There by Train

There are plenty of train options to take to Assisi. From Rome you can take a two hour ride directly to the Assisi station or you can save a few Euros by taking a route with a few stops. The train leaving from Rome’s Termini Station stops in Foligno but the trip is still only around two hours. You won’t need to make a reservation, just buy your ticket at the station, and they have trains leaving every 45 minutes. Along the way you will pass Spoletto, Spello and much beautiful Umbria countryside. If you’d rather take your time getting to Assisi you can grab a tour bus from Rome. The trip is about 4 hours each way with stops in between.

Getting Around by Bus

The train station is just far enough outside of the center of town to make you want to hitch a ride. A bus will pick you up right outside of the train station and only costs one Euro. You must purchase your ticket before you get on the bus from the Tabbachi store inside the Assisi train station. Once the bus arrives in Assis, you can choose to either get off at Basilica of San Francesco d’Assisi or go up the hill to the final stop near Duomo. It might be wise to visit Duomo first and avoid walking uphill.

Once you’re finally in Assisi you can enjoy walking everywhere and enjoying the sites.
