Tips on Snowdonia Warnings or Dangers – Stay Safe!

Snowdonia Warnings and Dangers

Snowdonia is a national park located in North Wales. While you’re planning your visit to Snowdonia, take a look at some of the dangers of the area so that you can stay safe during your visit.

Mountain Safety

The mountains of Snowdonia are not as high as some, and they’re lovely to look at. However, this can cause you to underestimate the dangers of hiking through these mountains. The fact is that even smaller mountains can be treacherous.

If you’re going to hike through the mountains in Snowdonia, be prepared. The weather in the area changes quickly, and it can become cold and windy with little warning, so bring warm clothing even if it seems sunny and mild when you’re on lower ground. The slate and scree in the mountains can be slippery, and it’s easy to lose your footing, so make sure that you wear sturdy shoes suitable for hiking and climbing. Bring plenty to eat and drink–drinking out of the streams is not recommended. Pack rain gear, a map, and a whistle so that you can attract attention if you get into trouble. Also, make sure to let someone know where you are going.

Slate Quarries

There are plenty of quarries created by holes left behind by slate mining operations, and on a hot day they may look like tempting swimming holes. However, the water inside these quarries is icy cold and deep, and the sides of the quarries are slick and sheer, making them hard to climb out of. Don’t risk trying to swim in them.

Animals on the Road

When driving through Snowdonia, keep an eye out for sheep or goats that wander into the roadways. They may dart into your path unexpectedly, so drive with caution and be alert when you see animals on the side of the road.

Taking note of these warnings will help ensure that you have a safe visit to Snowdonia.
