Malmo is home to some of the most troublesome rates of gang activity in Europe. When visiting here, you may want to be careful, particularly as a single women walking alone. Travel in groups when you can and be particularly alert at night. Avoid overt displays of religious objects like crosses around your neck. Some of the less safe areas include the suburbs of Lindänge & Rosengård, and areas in the city such as Triangeln & Möllevången.

Birds are Everywhere 

Malmo is on a bird migration route.  Birds are everywhere during certain times of the year. If you are afraid of birds, think twice about entering  the area’s many city parks. Many birds have become used to getting fed by locals. They will often come right up to you asking for a handout.

Traffic and Taxis 

The city of Malmo isn’t a large one. Many streets here are very old. It’s best to stick to walking whenever possible in order to get around. If you hail a taxi, make sure you know the fee in advance. The driver should give you a rough estimate of how long it will take to get to your intended destination. Some taxi companies will bring you a on longer route so pay attention to the driver and note the streets you cross. It shouldn’t take you very long to get from end of Malmo to the other. If you decide to rent a car, keep in mind that traffic is a problem in this city. Be wary of driving during the early morning hours or towards the dinner hour.
