Jaisalmer Transportation – Taxi, Train, Bus & Airport Tips

Jaisalmer Transportation

West of Jaipur, Jaisalmer is known as the Golden City of India. There are many ways to get around the city of Jaisalmer, both modern and traditional.

Camel Rides and Tours in Jaisalmer

You can make arrangements to travel in the area by camel.  There are many itineraries to choose from and lots of trekking companies, but you’ll want to put aside an extra 10 days or so to make these long trips. Any hotel in town can arrange for a camel ride out to Bada Bagh, Lodhruva, and a variety of other interesting places in the desert outside of Jaisalmer.

Rickshaws and Bike Rides Around the City

Rickshaws are the most convenient way to get around in places in India. The traffic is chaotic, but there is always enough space between two cars for a Rickshaw and they get through nearly every alley. There are also bicycles for hire for just a few rupees an hour, but it is also easy to see a lot on foot. The open air style cools you down pretty well in the summer heat, and there are chai stops along the way if you are in need of refreshments.

Trains and Buses To and From Jaisalmer

Jaisalmer is connected to the rest of India via North Western Railways to cities such as Delhi and Jodhpur. There’s a daily 19 hour long train that runs between Delhi and Jaisalmer, though it’s a better idea to stop overnight halfway in Jodhpur. There are also buses, but poor road conditions and excess dust can cause these rides to be quite uncomfortable.
