Berlin: What to Pack
When visiting Berlin you can pack as you would for any big city, except you’ll also want to be prepared for unpredictable weather.
Luggage and Bags
All you’ll need during your visit to Berlin you can probably fit into a backpack. A smaller bag may be helpful to carry the belongings you need as you explore the city.
Berliners wear practical clothes and don’t worry too much about fashion. Generally, think layers. Long sleeves during the cooler months and short sleeves in the spring and summer (pack a jacket for the warmer months too). If you go to Berlin during the winter, definitely pack plenty of warm clothes, you’ll be glad you did! Good walking shoes are a must, you’ll be on your feet a lot while exploring the sights. Plus, when it rains, it gets muddy and slippery, so if you have waterproof shoes, even better.
Definitely bring a camera to capture some great scenes. Be sure to have enough battery and memory to keep your equipment going. A tripod and wide-angle lens is also advised.
Other Items to Bring
Items that are useful while walking around Berlin are sunglasses, binoculars and bottled water (some people say the water here tastes sweet if you aren’t used to it). Another must-pack is rain gear, including an umbrella. If you bring electronics with you, be sure to have the right adaptor. In case you want to bring any electrical appliances with you, bring an adaptor/converter (Germany uses 220 volts and 50 Hz. It is a round pin attachment plug). Before you set out on the town, be sure to have both a street and subway map. A good travel guide helps too.
