Things to Do in Cherating Beach, Malaysia

Cherating Beach Things to Do

Cherating Beach is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Malaysia. This lovely resort town provides the perfect opportunity to relax and enjoy the smooth pace of life in the tropics.

Enjoy the Beach

The fact that the word beach is in the name of the destination says it all. No visitor should come to Cherating Beach without spending at least some of their time by the seaside. Cherating Beach itself is long and wide, making it perfect for taking leisurely strolls in the afternoon. The water is very shallow throughout, but the currents can be unpredictable, so it is advised that you stay out of the water other than dipping your feet in as you walk. Jellyfish are also common in the area, so watch your step. Despite that, Cherating Beach is one of the most beautiful and definitely one of the cleaner beaches in all of Malaysia.

Go for a River Cruise

Boating along the Cherating River is another top activity in the local area. A boat tour of the area will typically take about an hour and a half to complete, so be sure to squeeze one in during your stay. During the tour, you’ll have a chance to see lots of local wildlife in their natural habitats, including monkeys, snakes, lizards and a wide variety of birds. Tours typically depart in the morning and early afternoon. There is an evening tour as well, which allows you to watch all of the fireflies come out around dusk. This tour runs for about an hour.

Visit the Turtle Sanctuary

Visitors from all around the world flock to Cherating Beach to visit the turtle sanctuary and to watch the local turtles laying their eggs in the sand along the beach. The sanctuary is open daily and provides visitors with lots of insight into the turtles’ breeding habits and local conservation efforts to help preserve them. The staff at the sanctuary can also advise you as to when and where you are likely to see turtles in the wild laying their eggs. The sanctuary breeds turtles as well to help preserve the population, and it is exciting to watch them releasing their baby turtles into the ocean at night.
