Things To Do in Olongapo City

Olongapo City Things to Do

Olongapo is a large urban center in the Phillippines that has developed into a major tourism zone. Visitors to the city will find that there are plenty of things to do and places to explore.

The Nature Trips

Located near to the city is Anawangin Cove. Boatmen in the area can be contracted for travel to the cove. These boats typically don’t hold any more than 15 people, but you’ll have enough room to be comfortable. These boat trips are about 30 minutes long and will take you to view the various rock formations around the islands. Once you arrive in Anawangin Cove itself, you’ll find a very beautiful stretch of sandy shores in a relatively isolated part of the region. Depending on who you hire, the boatmen may set up tents for you and allow you the opportunity to stay overnight. This will provide you enough time to go swimming, hiking, and the chance to light up a bonfire on the beach.

If swimming doesn’t appeal to you, you can also choose a jungle tour trek. These are educational tours to into the rainforest of Subic Bay Freeport. Aeta guides provide an outdoor lesson on basic mountaineering, fire building, trap making, wildlife identification, and other wilderness survival techniques. This tour includes a guided tour of the JEST Forest Trails, a rolling tour of Subic Bay Freeport, and duty free shopping.

Sibit Sibit

Sibit Sibit is an annual festival that depicts Olongapo’s rich and colorful heritage. Held around the last week of May in Barrio Barreto, ‘sibit sibit’ refers to the small paddle banca (native boat) used in the ancient fishing villages from which Olongapo was ultimately born. In past times, fishermen held banca races using traditional sibit sibit driven by paddles.Today, the traditional fiesta is transformed into a colorful and enthralling beach festival.Aside from the boat races, the festival boasts sun and sand competitions, aqua sports activities, fabulous food showcases, bar and club activities, entertainment sprees, and talent showdowns.
