Banff Things to Do – Attractions & Must See

Banff Things to Do

Whether you love the snow or are visiting in the summer, there is plenty to do in Banff. Here are just a few of the activities you should take in.

Banff Avenue

Banff Avenue is the main strip for shopping and entertainment. If shopping is your game, this is where you want to be. The storefronts look like a combination of a Colorado ski town and a German Alps city. It is a great experience, even if you don’t stop in and buy anything.

Sulphur Mountain Gondola

This is a great hike. It is also uphill the entire way, so you’ll really get a lower body workout. It isn’t as extreme as steeper mountain paths, but it does require some endurance. The hike is 5.5 kilometers, so you should be able to walk it all in a few hours. Make sure to leave earlier in the morning toward the end of summer and into the fall months, as it does become dark much sooner here.

Lake Louise

There is just something romantic and isolated here. Lake Louise looks like it hasn’t ever been touched by mankind. The water is crystal clear so you can see the rocks below. The trees and mountains surrounding the water mean you’ll have a great view no matter where you are around the lake. Plus, when you go as the spring thaw hits, you’ll have a beautiful combination of life emerging from beneath the snow and ice.

Bow Falls

Looking for a shorter hike? Hiking out to Bow Falls isn’t difficult, but it is incredibly rewarding. It’s always great when you can make your way out in the lush forest and enjoy the water and natural scenery that simply doesn’t exist in many other locations.

Johnston Canyon

There is so much hiking around Banff you simply will not be able to do it all in one trip. A good place to start is to make your way out to Johnston Canyon. Not only is it a cool, comfortable hike, but you’ll also see some great waterfalls.

Cascade Gardens

Looking for a relaxing experience that doesn’t require as much mountain hiking? The Cascade Gardens is a great destination for natural beauty without much exertion.
