  • It may seem odd to base a festival around a legend about a witch who murdered her husband and was burned at the stake, but Belalp somehow makes it work. Up Helly Aa is Europe's "Largest Fire Festival," and it's held on the last Tuesday in January every year to mark the end of the yule season.
