Hilton to Introduce Keyless Rooms in 2015

When news broke of Starwood’s move to keyless hotel rooms, it raised the question of which other chains would go keyless, and when.

The answer wasn’t long in coming. We are now hearing from Hilton that they are also in the midst of developing and testing the hardware and software necessary to support keyless room entry.

According to the company’s news release: “Beginning in late spring of 2015, Hilton HHonors members staying at U.S. properties of the Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, Conrad Hotels & Resorts and Canopy by Hilton brands, can simply and securely use their smartphones to access their rooms.”

The technology is expected to be in place throughout Hilton’s worldwide network of 4,100 hotels sometime in 2016.

Keyless entry is just one of a number of upgrades to the Hilton mobile app, most notably online room selection. Hilton customers can now use the app to select a specific room, including the room number, at most hotels in the network. And by the end of this month, all Hiltons will support mobile room selection.

Once keyless entry becomes available, Hilton customers will be able to check in, choose a room, and unlock the room door… all via the mobile app.
