More fuel surcharges on the way

The Associated Press reports passengers can expect more surcharges in the near future, this time from transatlantic carrier British Airways. British Airways anticipates raising prices for long-haul flights by $40 to $60 to (what else?) offset the high cost of fuel. These extra fees will be applied to flights booked after Friday, May 2. (Word to the wise—if you’re planning on flying British Airways and want to avoid these extra fees, you should book now.)

Just how much will these fees set you back? The AP totaled it up: With the latest round of extra charges, flights lasting nine hours or more will have a whopping $315 in surcharges appended to the regular fare. Short-haul flights will have about $52 in extra fees added.

I’m starting to feel like a broken record—another day, another round of increases. Sadly, I think this is the new normal.
