Northwest flight attendants set to unleash ‘CHAOS’

Flight attendants for Northwest Airlines have rejected a labor deal approved by their union, and have issued a 15-day warning ahead of a possible strike or other series of actions that could begin August 15.

The bankrupt airline has been trying to negotiate a new contract with its flight attendants as part of its plan to save $1.4 billion in labor costs ($195 million of which would come from the flight attendants). The flight attendants have rejected Northwest’s proposals and now say they will unleash a program called “CHAOS” (“Create Havoc Around Our System”) to pressure management into a better contract.

CHAOS could include picketing, service interruptions, and intermittent strikes. A strike could be a devastating blow to the struggling airline. I’ll keep you posted here as more details surface in the coming days and weeks.
