TSA May Start Profiling Checked Luggage

The TSA is considering launching a new system to screen checked baggage, reports the LA Times. The proposed system would be risk-based, meaning that bags would be screened differently depending on the profile of the passenger who owns the bag.

The plan is reportedly part of a $2.2 billion plan that would be enacted over the next five-years. TSA spokesman Ross Feinstein told the LA Times, “TSA uses an intelligence-driven, risk-based approach to transportation security. An integral part of that strategy is using advanced technology in passenger and baggage screening.”

Currently, all luggage is screened equally by the TSA.
