British Virgin Islands Travel Guide: What to Do in the British Virgin Islands

Best Time to Go to British Virgin Islands

With average winter temperatures around 77 degrees Fahrenheit and average summer temps around 82, there is hardly a bad time to visit, except perhaps August and September when it can be quite hot and many businesses shut down. It does rain occasionally, especially in autumn, but it’s usually just a brief tropical shower. However, hurricane season from June through November always carries a risk of devastating weather. High season is December through mid-April, during which the crowds can be intense. Christmas, New Year’s and Carnival are especially busy and festive times in the islands.

British Virgin Islands on a Budget

The U.S. dollar is the legal currency of the British Virgin Islands. The summer offers the best chance of discounted airfare and lodging. It’s also easier to get restaurant reservations, tee times and access to transportation when the crowds are lighter. Guesthouses, cottage rentals and even campgrounds offer budget-friendly options. There’s plenty of access to free beaches, and some of the resorts even allow access to their waterfront. Try some of the smaller, less developed islands for exploration; ferries can get you between islands. Rustic hangouts feature such extras as beachfront lounge chairs, hammocks and entertainment, in addition to powerful cocktails, burgers and barbecue.

With 140 acres and only 31 villas, the resort is spacious and private. Located on a peninsula, the resort actually abuts three separate bodies of water. …” Read more!

Eastern Caribbean on Carnival Liberty by brneyes (Brenda B.)
“This was my first 8 day cruise (2 days at sea)on the Carnival Liberty. The Liberty is a large ship, beautiful in design color, some people may say it is too much. It has some nice lounges/bars/discos that are designed like batteries/cameras/pianos/hands & feet, which are really neat to see. The beds/bedding are …” Read more!
