So we have just the thing to help you get into the autumnal spirit—and find some seasonal vacation inspiration as well. Take our fall travel quiz to test your sightseeing smarts and learn fun facts about favorite fall destinations.

    Coronado Beach was titled the best beach in the U.S. in 2012 by Dr. Beach. The popular seaside destination is home to the famous Hotel del Coronado, which opened in 1888. The property is said to be haunted by several spooky specters, including the ghost of Kate Morgan, a woman who was found dead at the hotel in the late 19th century. Christine Donovan, author of Beautiful Stranger: The Ghost of Kate Morgan and the Hotel del Coronado, writes, "Guests in Kate's room report everything from breezes that come from nowhere to having to deal with a television set that turns on and off by itself."

    The London Underground is the world's oldest subway system. It opened as the first underground railway in 1863. Originally called the Metropolitan Railway, its initial route ran for about four miles between Paddington and Farringdon stations.

    Washington State produces the most apples in the U.S. According to the Washington Apple Commission, the state harvests over 100 million 40-pound boxes of the sweet fruit annually. Get your fill of Fujis and Braeburns by planning a trip to the Evergreen State during apple-pickin' season, which runs from mid-August to November.

    Mt. Washington, the highest mountain in the Northeast, peaks at 6,288 feet. You'll have to travel to New Hampshire's White Mountains to climb its sky-scraping summit; it's located in the 750,000-acre White Mountain National Forest. If you do reach the top, be careful! According to the New Hampshire Division of Parks and Recreation, "Truly the most outstanding feature of Mt. Washington is its weather, considered by many to be the 'worst in the world.' The highest wind velocity ever measured on earth, 231 miles per hour, was clocked on the summit on April 12, 1934. Wind exceeds hurricane force (75 mph) over one hundred days a year."
