Puerto Rico Things To Do
Puerto Rico is an extremely popular destination for U.S. travelers due to the very simple Puerto Rico passport requirements, the variety of Puerto Rico beaches, and the many unique things to do in Puerto Rico. Here are its top attractions.
Pozo de Jacinto
According to local lore, a cow farmer named Jacinto was dragged into an opening along the rocky coast of Puerto Rico by one of his cows. That opening is now called Pozo de Jacinto, and locals say that if you tell Jacinto you are bringing him his cow, his ghost will cause a huge wave to burst through the opening to stop you. More than that, of course, it’s a spot of extreme natural beauty.
The Bacardi Factory
Rum is by far the most popular alcoholic drink in the Caribbean, and some of the best rum in the world is made at the Bacardi factory in Puerto Rico. Visitors can take a tour of the facility for a small charge. The Bacardi Factory is located in the heart of the capital of Puerto Rico and it’s one of the top things to do in San Juan. Tours are available during normal factory hours.
San Cristobal Fort
Puerto Rico has its fair share of historical sites packed into a few small islands. The most noteworthy is the San Cristobal Fort. The In the early 1600s, the Spanish constructed fortifications around the city of San Juan, and today most of the wall still exists. It is an international historical site and is open every day of the year except for Christmas and Thanksgiving.
El Yunque National Forest
There’s only one rainforest in the U.S. National Forest system, and you’ll find it in Puerto Rico (although technically El Yunque is a group of rainforests that change in nature as altitude increases). It’s possible to drive up the mountain, but one of the best things to do in El Yunque is simply to take a walk or hike through the rainforest. There are a multitude of hiking paths and waterfalls to explore in El Yunque. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for the Puerto Rican Parrot, an endangered species, and be mindful of the most common El Yunque warnings and dangers as well.
