New Tourist Attraction is the Bomb … Literally

When we think of great tourist attractions, we imagine places more along the lines of the Great Wall of China, rather than a former atomic bomb test site. Chinese officials think differently, however, and plan to spend around $1 million to open the Malan Base to tourists, reports UPI.com.

Imagine how excited the kids will be when you tell them that you’ll be forgoing Disneyland this year in favor of a place that’s been linked to causing deaths and strange genetic mutations. When you visit, you’ll be able to see attractions like laboratories, dormitories, and an air raid shelter. We wonder what the Malan Base’s new tourist slogan will be—Former Atomic Bomb Test Site: An Explosively Good Time, perhaps?

The proposed tourism site is part of a Red Tourism campaign, designed by Communist Party officials to attract visitors to sites of historical significance around China.
