Popular carriers like United, Delta, and American Airlines are making strides to increase their international offerings from the United States next year.
While we all prepare for the winter chill, United is already looking toward warmer weather with the announcement of four new nonstop routes to European cities for the summer of 2026. The itineraries all depart from the United hub in Newark (EWR) to Croatia, Italy, Scotland, and Spain. The carrier is also launching service between Washington-Dulles and Reykjavik, available to book year-round.
Routes to Watch:
In another major service update from United, the carrier is set to become the only US airline to offer nonstop service between Newark/New York and Seoul, South Korea. This builds on their existing twice-daily service to Seoul from San Francisco, giving travelers on both coasts convenient access to this lengthy international itinerary.
Routes to Watch:
Launching in March, American Airlines plans to offer direct service to Scotland departing from New York (JFK). While not the first Scottish route offered by the carrier, this flight itinerary marks the first international venture for their recently acquired Airbus A321XLR. The first of its kind in a US fleet, this aircraft offers a Flagship Suite class with lie-back seats and wireless charging connections.
Routes to Watch:
Air Canada’s recent expansion of its European routes is big news for Aeroplan members, who can now use their miles on three exciting new routes to Spain, Italy, and Hungary this coming summer.
The carrier is also increasing its offerings to popular Asian destinations, including relaunching its nonstop service to Shanghai and making its Vancouver to Bangkok itinerary available year-round.
Routes to Watch:
Beginning in June 2026, Delta will offer daily nonstop service from Los Angeles (LAX) to Hong Kong, part of its larger anticipated expansion to major Asian airport hubs, including Manila and Singapore.
Routes to Watch:
For the FIFA World Cup, American Airlines will introduce limited-time service between Dallas–Fort Worth (DFW) and both Zurich (ZRH) and Buenos Aires, Argentina (EZE), helping shuttle soccer fans to and from the tournament’s matches in Dallas. The special routes will operate from May 21 through August 4.
Routes to Watch:
Multiple airlines are expanding their domestic routes, giving you more options when it comes to interstate travel.
Alaska Airlines is set to begin a push to connect its West Coast hubs with airports around the country in March and May next year, with twelve new routes departing from San Diego, Seattle, Portland, and Honolulu (plus a bonus route between Ontario and Santa Rosa-Sonoma, California).
Routes to Watch:
Southwest is making a major summertime splash in 2026 with more flights, new destinations, and its first-ever service to Alaska. The carrier is doubling down on the cities where travelers fly the most—Las Vegas, Orlando, San Diego, and Austin—while also expanding its famously robust intra-California network.
The airline’s biggest moves include expanded frequencies on nearly 20 major domestic routes, three new international options from Las Vegas, and Southwest’s first-ever service to Alaska. Add in Southwest’s ongoing cabin refresh—with assigned seating coming to the fleet and free Wi-Fi for Rapid Rewards members—and summer flyers will have more comfort and more choices than ever.
Routes to Watch:
Weekend warriors, rejoice— Delta Air Lines is launching a new lineup of Saturday nonstop flights to popular vacation destinations in 2026. The airline is adding more than a dozen leisure-focused flights across the U.S., Canada, and the Caribbean, giving customers a seamless way to reach sandy beaches, mountain escapes, and national parks during the most popular travel months of the year.
One of Delta’s key areas of growth is Austin, where travelers will see three new Saturday nonstop flights beginning in mid-June. These include easy access to the Montana gateways of Bozeman and Kalispell—perfect for exploring Yellowstone, Glacier, and Big Sky Country—as well as a new route to Destin-Fort Walton Beach for a quick Gulf Coast getaway. The additions build on Delta’s broader Austin expansion, which already includes international service to Cancún and Cabo San Lucas, as well as daily flights to Miami.
Beyond Texas, Delta is rolling out an array of new weekend-only escapes from major hubs, including Atlanta, Boston, Los Angeles, Seattle, and New York–LaGuardia. Whether it’s Caribbean hotspots like Grenada, Aruba, and Nassau, or domestic favorites like Jackson Hole and Albuquerque, the airline is focusing its summer offerings on destinations that travelers consistently flock to for sunshine, scenery, and warm-weather adventures. Many seasonal favorites are also returning next year, from Rapid City and Traverse City to Curaçao, St. Kitts, and Punta Cana, providing frequent vacationers with even more opportunities to revisit their beloved spots.
Flights begin operating in May or June and will run through early fall, giving travelers the flexibility to plan everything from early-summer trips to long-weekend getaways well into September and October.
