While Americans traveling abroad are a reportedly friendly crowd , the same may not hold true at home. Language tutoring service Preply surveyed over 1,200 Americans about their home cities and the results revealed that some spots in the U.S. are decidedly less welcoming than others—at least when it comes to holding the elevator.

These five cities ranked lowest on Preply’s friendliness survey, which included questions on the frequency of friendly behaviors like holding the door for someone, offering directions, or making recommendations to tourists.
