April 22 marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, and hotels in some of the country’s most beautiful locations are celebrating with discounts and special activities.
If you’re planning a trip in April, check for Earth Day deals at hotels. Here are a few of that I found:
Washington’s Olympic Peninsula: Lake Quinault Lodge and Kaloloch Lodge have Earth Day Volunteer Vacation deals between April 15 and 18, and on April 23. Guests who participate in one of two volunteer projects (beach clean-up on April 17 or historical cabin restoration on April 24) get a special rate of $99 or $109 that includes accommodations and a meal.
Santa Fe: The Eldorado Hotel & Spa is offering a 15 percent Go Green, Save Your Green discount, plus complimentary overnight parking for hybrid vehicles, and 20 percent off organic products at the spa. The offer, with rates from $149 per night, is good through April.
Marco Island, Florida: From April 10 to 24, The Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort will have free eco-educational activities for kids and families. Sessions will focus on dolphins, sea turtles, and other aspects of the local ecosystem.

Costa Rica is known for its commitment to sustainability and preservation. The Costa Rica Tourism Institute’s Sustainability Certification program makes it easy to find hotels and resorts that effectively manage natural, cultural, and social resources.
In Yellowstone National Park, efforts to become more sustainable have been ongoing for the last decade. The national park lodges operated by Xanterra in the park have decreased solid waste, water use, and energy consumption while increasing sustainable cuisine purchases by 592 percent since 2000. There’s also a list of ways to travel greener in national parks.
