Nepal

When To Go

Nepal is a geographically diverse country with high mountain and low plain areas. The most popular times to visit are during the fall and spring when the weather is favorable for touring and trekking. Winter is the least popular time for tourism. Although the summer is the rainy season, it still sees a good amount of visitor traffic from tourists on vacation, particularly from nearby India.

high season: March to May, September to November
low season: December to February
shoulder season: June to August

Weather Information

In general, summer temperatures hit the 80s and 90s, depending on region, while winter temperatures drop to the high 60s. Spring and fall hover in the low 80s. Monsoon season runs from June through September and especially affects the plains. Snow falls liberally in the Himalayas in the winter. Trekking is popular from October through May because days are clear.

Crowd Information

May and September are considered the top trekking months, and therefore attract the most people.

Closure Information

Hotels, shops, and other venues remain open year-round.

When to Save

In general, fall and spring are the best times to go to save money on hotels and experience favorable weather. June and July are the worst months for value, as airfare is especially high, and it's a rainy time.

When to Book

To get the best rooms, book six months in advance for trekking routes and tiger safaris; book two to three months in advance for cultural visits. To get the best airfare, book to six to nine months in advance, and also try to buy tickets by the end of the year before prices go up for the upcoming year.
