When To Go

The Principality of Monaco is a year-round Mediterranean destination. In general, the most popular times to visit are during the summer, as well as over the Christmas and New Year's holidays and around the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix in May. The least popular times are the end the first week of January through late March or early April and then again from early October up until the last week of December when there are fewer social events. In general, most of April through July and September through early October are moderately busy times with pleasant weather.

Weather Information

Located in the Mediterranean, Monaco has a mild climate, with more than 300 days of sunshine per year. Summer is very warm with temperatures in the 80s, which can get higher during July and August. Winter is sunny during the day and cool at night with temperatures in the 50s. Other times are very pleasant, with spring temperatures in the 50s and 60s and fall hitting the 60s and 70s.

Crowd Information

There is more leisure tourist traffic during the high season and fewer crowds during the shoulder and low seasons. Hotels and venues can sell out during events and holidays such as the International Circus Festival in January/February; opera, Rose Ball, Monaco international Dog Show, and Monte-Carlo Spring Art Festival in March; Tennis Masters Series in April; Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix in May; Feast of Saint John in June; Monte-Carlo Television Festival and Concerts at the Prince's Palace in July; Monte-Carlo International Fireworks Festival and International Stars at Le Sporting Club in July/August; Monte-Carlo Red Cross Gala Ball in August; Monaco Yacht Show and Monaco Classic Week in September; International Marathon in Monaco and Mon&eacutegasque National Holiday in November; Monaco Dance Forum and International Antique, Jewelry, and Art Show in December; and Christmas and New Year's festivities.

Closure Information

Some shops and offices close during the off-seasons. The Monte Carlo Beach Hotel is generally only open from March through November.

When to Save

In general, airfare and hotel prices are cheaper during the low and shoulder seasons. However, bargain hunters can find deals on hotels and vacation packages year-round, except around Grand Prix week.

When to Book

In general, book in advance to find discounts on airfare, hotels, and car rentals. Book several months advance for travel during the high season, especially during the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix in May, to ensure availability.
