When To Go

Missouri is an economical destination year-round. As a family destination, the busiest months are July and June (in that order), when kids are out of school and the weather is warm. The least popular time is during the coldest months of January and February. Spring and fall are less busy than summer but have pleasant, mild weather. The autumn also brings fall foliage season.

high season: June to July
low season: December to February
shoulder season: March to May, August to November

Weather Information

Missouri has variable weather conditions—sometimes rapidly changing, sometimes stable. They also vary geographically. In general, summers are long and humid with average daily temperatures ranging from 78 to 80 degrees across the state. Winters are fairly brisk with average daily temperatures during January ranging from 25 degrees in the northwest to 34 degrees in the southeast. Most rain falls during spring and autumn in the southeast, and during May through August in the northwest when most of the crops grow.

Crowd Information

The fewest number of people visit during the winter, particularly in January and February.

Closure Information

Venues such as outdoor theaters, water parks, and theme parks tend to be open all day during the summer days and on weekends during the late spring and the fall, but close for the winter. Many stage shows close down in the winter months and return in March or April. However, numerous others have started keeping winter hours. It's always best to check hours of operation before heading out.

When to Save

Missouri is an affordable destination year-round. Because the majority of its visitors drive to and around Missouri, airfare and car rentals are usually not necessary. However, promotions and discounts are offered throughout the year, especially for St. Louis, Kansas City, and Branson. Many Branson area resorts and lodging properties offer discounts during the winter months.

When to Book

Because prices vary by airline and hotel provider, there is no specific time to book to get the best rates.
