Singapore

About

Made up of one main island and 63 surrounding islets, Singapore has mastered the fusion of East and West, so visitors from around the world will be able to find both the familiar and the exotic. One of the most popular Singapore attractions, the Merlion statue, combines the head of a lion with the body of a fish as the perfect representation of the city's past as a quaint fishing village and its present as a powerful center of commerce and industry. Tourists can enjoy the nightlife on the Singapore River's Boat Quay and Clarke Quay, both of which offer bars, clubs, and restaurants. Other places to visit in Singapore include Pulau Ubin isle, home to a laidback, pastoral village, and St. John's Island, a former penal settlement that now offers its lagoons and beaches for a perfect relaxing retreat. Flights to Singapore touch down at Changi Airport, which is connected to the city via the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system.

When To Go

Singapore's climate is hot and humid year-round, so weather shouldn't be a consideration when booking a trip. The most popular time for visitors is June through July and November through December, when Singapore and most Southeast Asian countries have school holidays. The rest of the year is considerably quieter.

high season: June to July, November to December
low season: January to May, August to October

Weather Information

Singapore experiences tropical weather, with relatively consistent temperatures ranging from 80 to 90 degrees year-round. Rain is more common towards the end of the year.

Crowd Information

The Christmas in the Tropics celebration attracts large crowds from neighboring countries during November through January. Other major festivals include Thaipusam in January, the Singapore Food Festival in June and July, the Great Singapore Sale from May through July, and the Singapore Arts Festival in May and June.

Closure Information

Most shops, hotels, and attractions remain open year-round. However, some shops close for two days during the Chinese New Year, which falls either in January or February, depending on the lunar calendar.

When to Save

Tourism slows down in August and September, making late summer and early fall the best time to find discounted hotel rates. Tour operators, travel agents, and airlines typically offer competitive prices during the low season.
