Detroit Travel Guide

Why Visit Detroit

A city on the upswing, Detroit buzzes with exciting new development projects and a revitalized metro area. Mega casino resorts, robust music and food scenes, and year-round events give people plenty of reasons to visit Detroit. And the 5.5 mile-long Detroit International Riverfront puts Mother Nature squarely within reach of the downtown.

When to Visit Detroit

The Detroit International Car Show and the Motown Festival, both in January, lure visitors from around the world. In the first week of July, the Windsor-Detroit International Freedom Festival draws in millions with its massive fireworks displays, concerts, and popular attractions. And the city's professional sports teams are always a draw as well.

Detroit Weather

Detroit weather is similar to other Great Lakes cities like Chicago and Toronto. January and February are frigid, while July and August reach averages in the 80s Fahrenheit. Precipitation isn’t excessive, but Detroit does experiences frequent thunderstorms in the spring and summer. Late September and early October are peak foliage season.
