Mallorca: Spain’s Most Popular Island

About 10 million sun-seekers flock to Mallorca every year. What makes this island such a popular destination? It’s the biggest of the Balearic Islands, and it’s now chock-full of fantastic resorts and hotels to accommodate tourists’ every need. The island has something for every vacation style—mountains in the north, olive groves in the south, and beaches all along the coast.

The charming, car-free streets of Palma, Mallorca’s major city, are chock-full of cute local shops and cafes. Get your sightseeing and history fix with a stop at La Seu, a Gothic church. Other outside of the beach activities include hiking along the trails around the Serra de Tramuntana, driving the coastal road MA-10, and picnicking in the Parc de la Mer.

Where Is it? Off the east coast of Spain. Take an international flight into Barcelona (check prices) and then a 3.5 hour boat ride to the island.

Where to Stay? In the stylish Old City Can Cera Hotel.

What Else Should I Know?: If you’re planning on visiting during the high season (July and August) be sure to book a hotel well in advance.

Who’s it For?: Sunbathers, anyone who needs to decompress.
