For sightseers spring and fall are the most pleasant seasons to visit Romania, as the summer months can be very hot. On the other hand, that may be exactly what you’re looking for if you’re hoping to visit the Black Sea beaches; go in July or August. Wintertime is popular for snow sports in the mountains.

Romania on a Budget

As European countries go, Romania is quite affordable; travel in spring or fall to avoid peak summer pricing on hotels (especially along the coast, where many locals vacation). Guesthouses and hostels offer inexpensive lodging, and there are numerous public transportation options (such as trains and buses) that you can use in lieu of renting a car. Be sure to read the reviews before booking any budget hotels, however; the country’s star rating system is not always reliable.
