Powder Ridge Village – Utah

Author: Segolily
Date of Trip: March 2006

Read on to learn about my Powder Ridge, Utah getaway.

Summer

During the summer, it is great to go up the road to the top of the mountain, take in the great views and breathe in the mountain air.

Winter

During the winter, Powder Ridge Mountain Resort offers great skiing. They have easy runs and powder runs, and also offer snow cats to take you to runs off the beaten path. Because it is a little isolated, it is not often crowded.

Places to Stay, Things to Do

We usually go during the summer months and stay at the Powder Ridge Village time-share resort. It is on the same mountain, but not associated. It is located near the top of a mountain, offering views of the Great Salt Lake to the west, Cache Valley to the north, the Unita mountains to the east, and Upper Ogden Valley to the south.

They have recently reconstructed the recreation center with a new pool, hot tub, game room, deck, meeting room, store. They have one, two and three-bedroom units, each with a nice kitchen and eating area, fireplace, deck, Direct TV and VCR. The rooms are spacious.

The resort offers videos to rent, games to play, horseshoes, and mountain bikes. The store offers some staples, but for the most part you need to stock up on food in Eden before the 7-mile drive up the mountain. Once you leave Eden there are no services, just quiet mountain scenery, deer, elk, moose, bobcats, coyotes, sheep, hawks, and grouse (I’ve seen all but the coyotes, but they apparently track the sheep).

Shooting Star Saloon — I personally have never been here, but it is always listed as one of the top places to eat in the area. I think about it every time I drive by. It is casual, country, and hometown real. It is technically a bar but serves up hamburgers to write home about (or so I hear).

Village Store — One fun activity is to rent a bike or bring your own and ride down the dirt roads on the mountain. The roads are often bumpy, but there are a variety of options. For a short and fairly easy ride, follow the main resort road around the mountain, taking the right road at the fork. This will take you along a relatively level road on the top of the mountain with views of the Ogden Valley and Unita Mountains, and north to Cache Valley.
