Med Cruise and Ports Advice

Author: John T.
Date of Trip: June 2011

Set off from Palma Majorca on Grandeur of the Seas calling at Cannes,(for Monte carlo, Nice) La Specia, (for Florence and Piza) Civitavecchia, (for Rome) Palermo, (Sicily returning to Palma.

Save yourself a fortune and forget about organised trips unless you are into that sort of thing. Ship docked at Cannes which is very easy to walk round and see the sights there. Easy 20 minute walk from the Port to the railway station where tickets obtained for journey (1 Hr) to Monte Carlo. (16 euros return) Take top deck for wonderfull views of coastline.

Monte carlo again easy to walk round.

Onto Laspezia for acces to Pis and Florence. Because of time factor we took organised bus trip 2hrs there and back which made for limited time in Florence but never the less well worth it.

Then to Civitavecchia (For Rome)

Shuttle busses (free) took us from Ship to Port exit and from there a 10 minute walk to Railway Station where we caught the FAST Train into Rome. (30 MINUTES) Purchase tickets on board (cheapest at 12 Euros return)

Did our own thing in rome by open top bus (15 Euros for the day)

On to Palermo where did our own thing in the town but perhaps regretted not taking a gtrip up into the Mountains. we will do that next time as Palermo was beautiful and well worth another look.

No problems with transport and if in doubt just ask !. Met some lovely people in similar situations doing there own thing which makes for a pleasant holiday. J Turner
